This privacy policy explains how Trofima handles information when you use the app. Trofima is designed as a simple, practical, and privacy-friendly shopping list app. The app helps you create shopping lists, organise items by category, scan barcodes, view shopping history, save future lists, write shopping notes, choose your preferred currency, and view basic shopping analytics.
This policy applies to the Trofima mobile app.
1. Our privacy approach
Trofima is built to be local-first. This means your shopping information is created and stored on your own device, and Trofima does not send it to our own servers.
Depending on your device settings, your data may also be included in your device's own backup (see section 3, "Device backup"). This backup is controlled by you and your device, not by Trofima.
The current version of Trofima does not require you to create an account, does not show ads, does not sell your personal information, and does not use your shopping information for advertising.
2. Information stored on your device
Trofima may store the following information locally on your phone or tablet:
Shopping list names, shopping list items, item quantities, item categories, completed shopping lists, saved future lists, shopping notes, recently used items, category order preferences, preferred currency, shopping totals that you enter, and basic shopping analytics created from your own shopping history.
This information is stored so that the app can work properly, remember your lists and preferences, and provide useful features such as shopping history and spending summaries.
3. Device backup
Trofima stores its data on your device. Many phones and tablets also offer a built-in backup feature (for example, Android Backup, which copies app data to your own cloud account, such as Google Drive).
If you have device backup turned on, your Trofima data may be included in that backup so it can be restored if you reinstall the app or set up a new device. This backup goes to your own account and is controlled by your device settings, not by Trofima or Metrics Development. We do not receive or have access to these backups.
You can turn device backup on or off, or exclude specific apps, in your device's system settings.
4. Shopping analytics
Trofima may show analytics such as total spending, average trip spending, highest trip spending, and shopping history summaries.
These analytics are calculated from the shopping information you enter into the app. They are intended only to help you understand your own shopping habits.
Trofima does not use this information for advertising.
5. Barcode scanning
Trofima includes a barcode scanner to help identify products.
When you scan a barcode, the app may send the barcode number to public product databases to look for product information. These databases may include Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts, and Open Products Facts.
The app uses these services to try to find product names, brands, quantities, and product categories.
Your full shopping list is not sent to these product databases. The app only needs the scanned barcode number to check whether product information is available.
6. Camera permission
Trofima asks for camera permission so you can scan product barcodes.
The camera is used for barcode scanning only. Trofima does not take or store photos for barcode scanning in the current version.
You can deny camera permission, but barcode scanning will not work without camera access.
7. Internet access
Most of Trofima can work without an account and without sending your shopping list data to a server.
However, some features may need internet access. For example, barcode lookup needs internet access to check public product databases.
If your device is offline, barcode lookup may not work, but you can still manually add items to your shopping list.
8. Contacting support
If you contact Metrics Development by email, your email address and the information you include in your message will be visible to us.
When reporting a problem, you may choose to include details such as the app name, a description of the issue, the steps that caused the problem, your device type, and screenshots or images that help explain the issue.
Please avoid sending sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your support request.

9. What we do not do
In the current version of Trofima:
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not show ads.
We do not use your shopping list for advertising.
We do not require an account to use the main app.
We do not collect payment information.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information.
10. Third-party services
Trofima may use third-party services for specific features.
For barcode lookup, Trofima may connect to Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts, and Open Products Facts.
When you use barcode lookup, those services may receive technical information such as the barcode request and standard network information from your device connection.
If you choose to help add a missing product, the app may open the relevant Open Facts website in your browser. Any information you submit there is handled by that third-party service, not by Trofima or Metrics Development.
11. Data deletion
You can delete shopping lists, shopping items, notes, and history inside the app where those options are available.
Because Trofima stores app data locally on your device, you can also remove locally stored app data by uninstalling the app or clearing the app storage from your device settings.
If you uninstall the app, locally stored Trofima data may be deleted from your device.
12. Data security
Trofima is designed to reduce privacy risk by keeping most app data on your device.
However, no app or device storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You should protect your phone or tablet with a passcode, fingerprint, face unlock, or another device security method.
13. Children's privacy
Trofima is a general shopping list app. It is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.
If a parent or guardian believes a child has shared personal information through a support email, they can contact us and request help.
14. Future updates
Trofima may receive updates that add, remove, or improve features.
If a future version introduces account features, cloud storage, list sharing, or other features that change how information is handled, this privacy policy will be updated to explain those changes.
15. Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated when the app changes or when privacy information needs to be made clearer.
The latest version of the policy will be shown on this website and may also be shown inside the app.
